GENERAL QUESTIONS:
What does the “X” in MATRI-X stand for?
The “X” in our name serves as a constant reminder of “Experience”. One of the most fundamental principles of MATRI-X is that what we offer either our customers or our students should be based upon the real-life expertise of the MATRI-X co-owners and founders, Doug Snow & Kian Amirkhizi, as they both continue to own and operate successful interior restoration businesses in one of the most unforgiving markets in the United States.
Regarding our trainings, every technique, tip or skill that we offer our students is based upon years and years of trial and error on Kian & Doug’s part. We never want to forget that this is what makes MATRI-X great, so it is part of our name.

QUESTIONS ABOUT MATRI-X TRAININGS:
Are you going to offer more advanced classes in specific subjects?
Although MATRI-X has not specifically announced training dates, we have begun working on the curricula of a new series of “Master” level courses. The subjects of these courses are based upon what we have heard our students ask about, such as Advanced Leather Repair/Restoration or Advanced Plastic Surface Repair/Restoration. Keep watching our web site for new class announcements!
Are you planning on doing an East Coast training?
MATRI-X held a “Master The Basics” training in South Carolina last fall and had a great time! We really enjoyed our visit and we are determined to arrange another training on the East Coast as soon as possible. Unfortunately, as of yet we do not have any firm dates.
The most difficult part of arranging a seminar away from our home base is finding a suitable training room that is comfortable and safe for our students, and that has an electrical and air system that will support our elite classroom setup. MATRI-X also maintains the same standards for our classes when we travel as when we offer trainings at home – when we train on the East Coast we ship our entire multimedia classroom with us at considerable expense, leaving little overhead for renting a suitable training room.
If someone on the East Coast knows of a suitable training place or would be interested in providing a training room in exchange for seats in our seminars, please contact us.
Can I “audit” a MATRI-X Training?
We often have received requests from people that wanted to “audit” our seminars. (By “audit” we mean to attend the training without being able to take part in any classroom activities, practical exercises and without taking any of of the books and handouts offered, and to not receive any certification or direct help from Doug and Kian). In short, we do allow people to audit the seminar for a fee (usually 2/3 of full registration) if there is a really good reason (e.g. language interpretation, etc) - but we certainly do not encourage this.
MATRI-X invests much more in our trainings than simply collecting registration fees. Part of our Mission is based upon our genuine desire to help people build skills and ability that enable them to succeed in business. The person that “audits” our class is really missing out on most of the things that make our class really valuable: interaction with Kian & Doug, working with their fellow students on practical exercises, and learning through “hands-on” applications of the information that is offered through the lectures and books.
We also appreciate the reality that our students have spent valuable resources to attend our trainings. Our students spend these resources because they want to improve themselves or to rise above their competitors. It would be unfair to allow someone a way to attend the class for a lower price if the person that “audits” is doing this for their own education. We also dislike the inherent distraction that a person who audits the class causes.
Therefore, we only allow people to “audit” in circumstances when another person’s ability to take the class and achieve certification depends upon another person assisting them. We do address this on a case-by-case basis; so contact us if you have further questions about auditing a MATRI-X seminar.
If I attend a MATRI-X training, how will I know where to arrange lodging, etc?
All of our students receive a detailed document called a “Student Welcome Guide” when their paid registration is received by MATRI-X. This document explains most of the details of the seminar, such as recommended lodging, restaurants, maps of where the training is held and lots and lots of general information about the classes as well as the extra-curricular activities we offer.
Regarding lodging when training in Los Angeles, MATRI-X usually is able to arrange a discount rate at a local hotel that is very close to our training facility and public transportation to and from LAX. We have heard many positive comments from our students about their stay there, although of course our students are welcome to stay wherever they wish.
Your class is more expensive than some of the classes I've seen. What if I don't like it?
Unlike most of our competitors, we offer a 100% no-questions-asked guarantee to our students (see details on the UNBIASED page). This means our students risk nothing!

UNBIASED QUESTIONS:
What is the difference between “Master The Basics – UNBIASED and the other “Master The Basics” series of trainings?
The main difference is the reality of our industry. Virtually all trainings and seminar on interior restoration are offered or sponsored by product manufacturers. Understandably, the manufacturers require the trainers to only use their own product line in the class. The other side of this reality is that in real life, professional technicians rarely use a single product line to address every repair that they encounter in the field. Instead, they pick and choose the products that they have had success with, or that they hear about in other ways.
UNBIASED reflects this reality. Without the sponsorship of any specific product manufacturer, Doug & Kian can speak openly and honestly about product selection, while the students are able to use a variety of products by a variety of product manufacturers. All choices on what products are used within UNBIASED are based upon the real-life practical experiences of Kian & Doug.
There are some other advantages to the UNBIASED class as well:
UNBIASED features a new innovative part of the class that will teach our students how to choose products based upon the job at hand.
The MATRI-X training series “Master The Basics” features three days of training – “Master The Basics –UNBIASED ” features an extra day (four total days) of training for the same registration fee.
The extra day of training will allow students to ask and learn more about the specific problems that they encounter every day in the field.
Who is "Master The Basics UNBIASED " designed to teach?
After countless interviews with MTB graduates, we have found that this class benefits anyone involved in the professional recon industry whether an absolute beginner or a seasoned professional.
MATRI-X currently operates an online store that sells repair/restoration products. Does this affect what you will teach in UNBIASED?
Absolutely not. The techniques, tools and products that are used in UNBIASED are only chosen based upon Kian & Doug's individual experience and knowledge acquired as successful recon business owners.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MATRI-X PRODUCT LINE/ONLINE STORE:
Why did MATRI-X start an online store?
Kian & Doug spent many years working to build their own successful individual interior/aesthetic repair and restoration businesses before beginning to teach. During that time they both encountered a lot of the problems that business owners still struggle with in how to get the products that they want and need to use in an efficient way.
The lessons that Doug & Kian learned led them to think that there might be a better way to do this. The MATRI-X online store is a result of those lessons – Kian & Doug are trying to build a “supermarket” of interior repair products, coatings and tools. This will allow our customers to have a “one-stop” solution to getting what they need.
In the future we hope to further build our store into the most convenient and progressive shopping outlet for everyone from the “do-it-yourselfer” to the seasoned professional.
